Family Involvement
Relationships with our families in care are extremely important at EASCA. Families are informed of what is happening at the program through monthly newsletters, emails, and letters. We enjoy sharing with the family’s new ideas we are incorporating into the programs as well as valuable resources. When allowed to have families in the centre we hold events such as career days, Christmas parties, summer barbeques, pizza pumpkin Halloween night, talent shows, etc. We also incorporate special days where we have families come in, on separate occasions to introduce family favorites and cultural dishes, as well as introducing cultural readings, music and art. Families are also encouraged to share family photos and their cultural beliefs.
Community Involvement
It is important that the children at EASCA feel a sense of belonging in our community. Community involvement has been of great importance over the years. Our Afton location plants and cares for a garden every summer for the Community League. Families sign up to contribute to the garden, allowing everyone to be involved in the process. At EASCA we also enjoy giving back to the community. This includes trips to the senior’s buildings to sing songs, visit, and bring much needed donations. We also hold an annual car wash for the children’s choice of charity. On that day, the children bake cookies to sell, sell lemonade and wash up vehicles that drive in. We feel it is important that the children learn a variety of life skills from community leaders.
Child Care Memberships and Involvement
EASCA are members of the Association of Early Childhood Educators of Alberta and the Canadian Child Care Federation. At EASCA we also participate in the west end Sector Meetings hosted by Child Care Licensing. We also support students by hiring them for summer work through Canada Summer Jobs.
